Beyond the Usual

A Wider Scope of SCO Action

Beyond policy advocacy and leisure events, the Staff Council engages in a broad range of strategic and community-building activities. From regional field missions to education fairs, budget reform to family support β€” SCO is committed to being a comprehensive partner for every staff member.

Revamping the Staff Council is one of our strategic priorities: enhance efficiency, improve relevance, rebuild trust, and create a reliable partner for staff across all 41+ country offices.

Strategic Priority

SCO Budget on the Rise

Revamping the Staff Council is a top strategic priority. SCO secured a significant increase in financial resources β€” almost doubling the budget from 2022 to 2024 β€” to enhance efficiency, improve relevance, rebuild trust, and become a truly reliable partner for all staff.

Member contributions are distributed fairly between headquarters and regional offices, based on the number of employees. The increase became effective on 1 March 2024.

Community Initiatives

Supporting Staff Beyond Work

SCO invests in the full well-being of staff and their families β€” at work and beyond.

Virtual Education Fair

Helping staff parents guide their children toward the best academic opportunities.

The aim of the Education Fair is to enable parents to better guide their children in their academic and professional orientation. The first edition was held virtually on October 4–5, 2023, making it accessible to staff across all country and regional offices.

  • 17 national, continental, and international graduate schools and universities invited
  • Speakers presented their training courses and programs to staff
  • First virtual edition β€” accessible to all field office colleagues
  • Speakers expressed satisfaction and requested yearly editions

Next edition: The Education Fair is planned as an annual event. Stay tuned on the SCO events calendar for the next edition date.

Family Association

A key strategic partner in building a sense of belonging for AfDB families.

The Bank considers the Family Association a key strategic partner. It acts as liaison between Management and families, ensuring that families integrate not only with the communities where the Bank operates, but most importantly, with other families within the AfDB community.

The Staff Council supported the relaunch of this sister association in 2023. Two activities marked this restart:

  • Induction day for new volunteer members following the June 26, 2023 call
  • Open market event organized on International Women's Day
  • Fostering a feeling of unity within the African Development Bank family
  • Supporting community integration at all duty stations
